Oneonta Country Club seeks a Golf Course Superintendent for its 2022 golf year that runs from March 14 to December 16.
Oneonta Country Club is located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The course originated in 1913. The current course layour dates back to 1928 and was designed by William E. Harris. It now functions as a semi-private club with over 300 active members. The course plays to a par 72 at 6374 yards and is noted for its greens and fairway conditions. Numerous changes in elevation help provide a challenging, picturesque golf experience. It is the only course in the area with a full sprinkler system to ensure high quality fairways and greens. Investments have been made in recent years to upgrade maintenance equipment which is serviced by our full time mechanic.
The Club seeks an experienced golf course superintendent who understands both the management and technical requirements of the position.
Salary: $50,000 to $60,000 depending on experience
Position Responsibilities:
- Hires, supervises and develops employees in the maintenance department
- Coordinates scheduling of all personnel assigned to the department
- Communicates frequently with the Greens Committee to discuss activities, goals, plans and member/customer feedback.
- Manages annual budget plan for the golf course maintenance operation on an annual basis
- Maintains all grounds including the golf course and clubhouse
- Supervises planting, chemical applications and fertilizing, and other care of turf, plants, shrubs and trees on the golf course and clubhouse area
- Maintains inventory and oversees all repairs and scheduled maintenance of all golf course maintenance equipment
- Enforces safety program for employees of the maintenance department
- Manages maintenance and operation of drainage, irrigation and other mechanical watering systems
- Follows chemical and fertilizing plan on an annual basis
- Maintains all recordkeeping for maintenance department (fertilization and chemical application logs)
- Perform other duties as assigned by Greens Committee

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- 2+ years turf grass management experience required
- Supervisory, coaching and staff development experience required
- A two year college degree preferred
- Possess current spray technician license
- Knowledge of local, federal, and state laws and regulations affecting management of golf course operations
- Must be highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be have basic computer skills, Word and Excel
