ABOUT ALBANY COUNTRY CLUB
Founded in 1890, Albany Country Club (ACC) is one of the oldest continuously operated golf clubs in the country. In 1960 the Governor claimed the club’s land by eminent domain and it was relocated to its current location just outside the city of Albany. ACC has undergone many renovations over the years and now boasts spectacular views from its beautiful clubhouse with Grille Room and Patio for member dining and private banquet rooms able to accommodate events from 10-300 guests. The 7,100 yard golf course was designed in the early 1960s by Robert Trent Jones and is one of the finest in the northeast. A practice facility with driving range and putting green help members advance their golf game. Additional amenities include three outdoor lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, two asphalt tennis courts, lighted paddle tennis, and two swimming pools.

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the golf course maintenance program, including: turfgrass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, member relations, scheduling/maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide application, related recordings and compliance of regulatory issues. The Superintendent works to create an environment where staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect for themselves, members and guests.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- · Maintain golf course and grounds according to club standards, including supervising all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course; selecting and preparing proper fertilizers and nutrients for all flora and fauna; developing and maintaining drainage, irrigation and watering systems.
- · Supervise operations and staff in equipment repair shop.
- · Be proactive in developing innovative ideas to facilitate the continual delivery of exceptional quality products.
- · Assist in maintaining a daily record log for weather, course conditioning, cultural practices, equipment maintenance, fertilizer and pesticide applications.
- · Encourage, mentor, coach, supervise train and develop team members to ensure their maximum value in accordance with ACC policies and procedures. Hold all team members accountable for their area of responsibility.
- · Implement and enforce comprehensive safety program for employees, members and guests in compliance with OSHA and ACC guidelines and standard operating procedures.
- · Interview and hire positions to include Equipment Manager, Irrigation and Spray Technician and all seasonal team members.
- · Lead by example while setting the benchmark of performance in the areas of motivation, sense of ownership, and dedication to quality product.
- · Complete administrative tasks such as scheduling, performance review, and payroll in a timely manner.
- · Prepare and adhere to operating budget for department
- · Implement new methods and procedures designed to minimize operational costs and maximize resources.
- · Be available to work weekends, holidays, mornings and evenings as business demands.
- · Attend Golf Committee & Green Committee meetings
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- · Bachelor of Science degree in Turf Management or Associates Degree in related Turfgrass Science certification or related field such as Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant/Soil Science.
- · Certified Golf Course Superintendent (GCSAA)
- · Minimum 3-5 years experience as a Golf Course Superintendent, or 5-7 years experience as First Assistant Superintendent of a comparable private club.
- · Pesticide Application License.
- · Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- · Excellent communications skills with staff, members, guests, vendors and contractors, at all times exhibiting tact and diplomacy and representing ACC in a professional manner.
- · Knowledge of ordering/purchasing, inventory control, budget management and P&L accountability.
- · Computer skills to include Microsoft Office, financial reporting, email and the internet.
- · Ability to calibrate sprayers, spreaders, scientific instruments, irrigation systems.
- · Basic understanding of preventive maintenance systems, mechanical operations of engines and hydraulics, and irrigation systems and components
