Job Summary:
As the Golf Course Superintendent at Cazenovia Golf Club, you will play a critical role in ensuring the overall excellence of our golf course. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomy, working closely with the Board of Directors and PGA Golf Professional to ensure the course is in peak condition throughout the year. This position requires a passion for golf course management, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing an outstanding golfing experience to our members and guests.
Key Responsibilities:
Course Maintenance:
- · Oversee daily maintenance operations, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control.
- · Implement a proactive maintenance schedule to ensure optimal course conditions year-round.
- · Maintain bunkers, tees, greens, fairways, and roughs to the highest standards.
Staff Management:
- · Recruit, train, and supervise a skilled team of maintenance staff, including equipment operators and laborers.
- · Develop and manage staff schedules and assignments to ensure efficient course maintenance.
Budget and Resource Management:
- · Develop and manage the annual budget for course maintenance, including equipment and supplies.
- · Monitor and control expenses to ensure financial objectives are met.
Agronomy and Turf Management:
- · Implement and adjust agronomic practices to achieve excellent playing conditions.
- · Monitor turf health, disease, and pest management strategies.
- · Develop and implement a long-term turf improvement plan.
Equipment Maintenance:
- · Oversee the maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, and irrigation systems.
- · Ensure equipment is properly calibrated and maintained for optimal performance.
Environmental Stewardship:
- · Implement and oversee sustainable and environmentally responsible practices on the golf course.
- · Ensure compliance with local environmental regulations.
Communication and Collaboration:
- · Collaborate with the club's management team to plan and execute golf course projects and improvements.
- · Maintain open and effective communication with members and guests regarding course conditions and upcoming maintenance.
Desired Qualifications:
- · Bachelor's degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, or a related field (preferred).
- · Minimum of 5 years of experience in golf course management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- · Strong knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, turfgrass management, and agronomy.
- · Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- · Budgeting and financial management experience.
- · Familiarity with golf course maintenance equipment and irrigation systems.
- · Commercial pesticide category 3A or 3B certification
