The Ontario Golf Club is a Geoffrey Cornish-designed, Semi-private Golf Club, established in 1928 and is rated one of the top five golf courses in the Rochester, NY area by the Rochester Business Journal. The course features 18 challenging holes of golf as well as a practice range. They have hosted the US Amateur Qualifier, US Public Links Qualifier, US Woman's Open Qualifier, RDGA Championships, and New York State Amateur Championships. Serving great food and drink in a comfortable Country Club Style Pub and Banquet Facility. Our mission is to deliver the highest level of golf, leisure, recreation, and camaraderie by seamlessly blending the refined elegance of our golf course with the welcoming warmth of our pub restaurant, creating an exceptional destination where members and guests forge lasting memories amidst pristine fairways and exceptional dining experiences. Along with our two new Trackman Simulators, we are a true 12-month golf club operation ready to serve our patrons at the highest level.
The club house, golf shop, golf course and pool facilities have been completely re-modeled and restored under new ownership in 2022.
Job Overview:
This is a full-time year-round salaried position with benefits. As Superintendent, you will be entrusted with the maintenance, operations and management of the golf course and ancillary property. The responsibilities include turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/building/asset relations, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, member relations, scheduling/maintenance of the irrigation system, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance of regulatory issues. The Golf Course Superintendent works to create an environment where the staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect for themselves, members, guests and the property.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for all phases of Golf Maintenance and Agronomics operations, cost control, and personnel. This will include Overseeing the maintenance a New 4-piece Equipment package and the repairs of our current fleet with the Mechanic.
- Works closely with, advises and coordinates with the Ownership and PGA professional of the Club on any issues related to golf course maintenance.
- Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the grounds.
- Administer and enforces all Club rules, regulations and policies for staff.
- Advise and consults with Ownership and PGA professional for reporting purposes.
- Works closely with and directly reports to the Ownership and PGA professional.
- Must be able to work independently and be a self-starting problem starter.
- Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club, state and federal guidelines for safe working.
- Oversees employees in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.
- Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications and water withdrawal for DEC reports on the grounds in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
- Develops annual operating and capital budget and plans for capital improvement projects.
- Oversees the care and maintenance of the golf course equipment.
- Coordinates snow removal and winter maintenance activities.
- Determines when the course should be closed due to weather conditions that may damage the course if play continues.
- Possess basic computer skills including the ability to navigate the internet, using email, understanding file management, and proficient using a desktop for irrigation implementation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent or 1 year as a Superintendent
- Preferably a 2-year Degree or Certificate in Turf Management (or related field, like agronomy, horticulture, plant science, soil science).
- Pesticide Application License
- Valid Driver's License.
- Preferably GCSAA Certified Golf Course Superintendent
Compensation Package:
- Base salary $80,000 to $90,000 based on experience
