Job Title: Golf Course Superintendent
Location: Conewango Valley Country Club, Warren, PA 16365
Reports to: Board of Directors – Chair of Golf Committee
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Golf Course Superintendent to manage all aspects of the golf course’s operations, including equipment maintenance, staff management, golf course maintenance, and greens keeping. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of turf management, attention to detail, and leadership experience to ensure the golf course is in excellent condition and offers an outstanding experience for golfers.
Key Responsibilities:

Golf Course Maintenance:
- Oversee and coordinate the daily maintenance of the golf course, including fairways, tees, roughs, greens, and bunkers.
- Monitor turf health and implement strategies to maintain optimal grass conditions throughout the year.
- Ensure proper irrigation systems are functioning and manage water usage efficiently.
- Supervise the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals in compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain the course layout and features, including landscape aesthetics and course design integrity.

Equipment Maintenance:
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, sprayers, and utility vehicles.
- Ensure that all machinery is kept in excellent working condition, perform regular preventative maintenance, and manage inventory of parts and supplies.
- Coordinate with external service providers for specialized repairs as needed.

Staff Management:
- Supervise, train, and manage the golf course maintenance staff, including groundskeepers, irrigation technicians, and equipment operators.
- Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all golf course maintenance tasks.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and foster a positive, productive work environment.
- Ensure all staff members are trained in the safe operation of equipment and adherence to environmental and safety regulations.

Greens Keeping:
- Manage the health and quality of the greens, including mowing, aerating, topdressing, and maintaining smooth, fast putting surfaces.
- Monitor for pests, diseases, and weed growth and take corrective action when necessary.
- Oversee the preparation and setup of greens for tournaments, events, and daily play.
- Ensure that proper seasonal care procedures are implemented for winterizing or preparing the course for peak seasons.

Budgeting and Planning:
- Assist in the development of the golf course maintenance budget and manage expenses to stay within financial guidelines.
- Order supplies, equipment, and materials as needed and monitor inventory levels.
- Implement cost-effective solutions for turf management and course operations.

Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with management to develop strategies for improving course playability and overall aesthetics.
- Communicate with golfers and other stakeholders to address concerns and ensure the highest standards of course quality.
- Maintain positive relationships with vendors, suppliers, and external contractors.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of turf management, irrigation systems, golf course equipment, and pesticide/fertilizer application.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, train, and motivate a diverse team.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing weather and seasonal conditions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate various types of equipment safely.
- Preferred but not required: Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Preferred but not required: Certification as a Golf Course Superintendent (GCSAA) or similar credentials.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
